The Régordane Way, also known as the Chemin de Saint-Gilles or GR 700, traverses varied landscapes from the Massif Central to the doorstep of the Mediterranean. For centuries, this route has been traveled by merchants, pilgrims, and all sorts of adventurers.
The Régordane Way begins in Le Puy-en-Velay, specifically at Place du Plot, a location well-known for hosting a large part of the city's market.
Le Puy is easily accessible by train from many cities in France, making it a convenient gathering point for hikers wishing to embark on the Régordane route.
The itinerary crosses several remarkable regions, each with its unique identity and landscapes to offer: Velay, Margeride, Gévaudan, the Cévennes, and the Camargue.
The Régordane is primarily a path of exchange, where merchants once transported their goods from the Mediterranean to Île-de-France. It is also a sacred route, linking the abbey of Saint-Gilles or the cathedral of Le Puy.
The many castles and churches along the path testify to this rich heritage, as does the city of Nîmes with its formidable Roman legacy.
During your journey through the Cévennes, you will discover notable sites such as La Garde-Guérin, Villefort, and the impressive Château de Portes, built in the 11th century.
After passing through the Nîmes region, the hike ends in the Camargue, at Saint-Gilles-du-Gard. A must-see: the 12th-century abbey to beautifully conclude this historical journey.
To make your hike on the Régordane Path easier, we offer baggage and passenger transport services.
We transport luggage from one accommodation to the next, allowing hikers to fully enjoy their adventure.
We can also provide custom passenger transport services, which can help you return to your starting point once the hike is over or reach a nearby train station.
