A Circular Route

The route generally starts in Langogne or Aumont-Aubrac: two of the main towns crossed by the itinerary. They are easily accessible, particularly thanks to their train stations. Langogne is also a stage on the Stevenson trail, and Aumont-Aubrac is a stage crossed by the Way of Saint James.

Must-see stages

Your journey will allow you to touch upon the Aubrac and the Way of Saint James (GR®65) by passing through Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole or Peyre-en-Aubrac. You will join the slopes of Mont Lozère and cross the Stevenson Trail (GR®70) between La Bastide-Puylaurent and Cheylard-l'Evêque.

Cultural and natural experience

The Margeride is a very little known large granite plateau. With views of vast meadows, forests, heathlands, and granite rocks, the Tour de la Margeride will surprise you with the diversity of its landscapes. Many rivers cross the territory and feed the Loire, the Garonne, and the Rhône.

You will also follow in the footsteps of the famous Beast of Gévaudan, a legendary animal that terrorized the region between 1764 and 1767. Perhaps you will cross its path at a bend in the road...

Hike with peace of mind

To facilitate your hike on the Tour de la Margeride, La Malle Postale offers baggage and passenger transportation services.

We transport luggage from accommodation to accommodation. This will allow you to fully enjoy your hike without worrying about the weight of your belongings or unfavorable weather conditions.

We can also offer tailor-made transportation. This can allow you to return to your initial starting point once your hike is finished or to reach a nearby train station.
