The Jura Escape: between deep forests and sparkling lakes

Between Dole and Saint-Claude, via the resort of Les Rousses, the Échappée Jurassienne passes through some of the Jura's greatest sites. This 300km hiking route, which is fully signposted and approved as a GR®, will help you discover the richness and mysteries of this land of varied landscapes and topography.

Its unsuspected vineyards with 7 AOC wines, its invigorating lakes and waterfalls, its emblematic secluded spots and its UNESCO World Heritage-listed salt works make the Echappée Jurassienne a unique and unexpected adventure.

With more than 110 accommodations located along the route and ready to welcome hikers, an FFRando TopoGuide® dedicated to the itinerary, specific signposting along the route, the Echappée Jurassienne offers all the useful services for itinerant hikers.

Departure from Dole

Your adventure begins in Dole, a town of art and history. As you leave this town on the Jura plain, you'll quickly plunge into the rolling green landscapes of the Jura.

Must-see stops

The route will take you through exceptional natural sites. You can admire the grandiose panoramas from the crests of the Jura, refresh yourself in the crystal-clear waters of the lakes, and marvel at the tumultuous waterfalls.

Lake Chalain, with its turquoise waters and natural setting of greenery, is a must-see stop. This glacial lake, one of the largest natural lakes in the Jura, offers an ideal setting for swimming, fishing, or simply relaxing. You can explore its shores on foot or by bike, and discover the remains of a lake village.

The city of Saint-Claude, famous for its tradition of stringed instrument making, marks the end of your hike. You can visit workshops of artisans and discover the secrets of making stringed instruments.
